JEWISH WOMEN'S RENAISSANCE PROJECT

Location: Rockville, MD preferred: open to northeast remote location

Position Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with the Founding Director and the Board, the Development Director will directly supervise a small team of development professionals, as well as oversee the financial resource development (FRD) efforts of other professional staff, Board members, contractors and volunteers.

Holds primary responsibility for developing and implementing a comprehensive and compelling development plan for JWRP, including individual and family major giving, foundations, special events, corporate sponsorships, collaborative partnerships (e.g., federations), direct response communications (direct mail, e-philanthropy, telemarketing, etc.), and planned giving. Responsible for creating the strategy and tactical plans as well as oversight and supervision of the efforts to secure Mega gifts ($500,000 and above), Major gifts ($25,000 to $499,000) and Mid-market gifts ($5,000 to $24,999). Oversees the efforts of individual JWRP’s relationship managers and solicitors (board members, leading professionals and other friends and ambassadors) assisted by JWRP’s system of account management and research.

Works closely with the Finance Team to set and monitor revenue projections, maximize the development reporting from Sales Force, and optimize the collaboration and coordination among the two functions.

 

Key Responsibilities

  1. Develops an overall strategic plan for an integrated fund raising model that supports the overall mission of the organization and establishes goals for new contributions, donor retention and gift upgrades. Involves professional colleagues, board members, and relevant volunteers in the strategic development process to utilize their expertise and cultivate their support.
  2. Creates and monitors tactical plans to ensure all board-approved development priorities are met in a timely and high-quality manner. Takes a lead role on specific plan initiatives.
  3. Manages the overall account management system including but not limited to: creating and implementing internal systems, policies and procedures; training account managers and overseeing their portfolio management progress; assigning relationship managers, solicitors and account managers to all donors and prospects; and developing and implementing timely and accurate reports to monitor overall FRD achievements.
  4. Works with the Director of Finance & Operations to implement and maintain a high-quality donor management system capable of tracking and reporting all prospect and donor activity. Directs the development of dashboard reports that track key indicators. Ensure donor information is effectively and efficiently maintained, prospect cultivation activity is appropriately tracked and relevant staff are sufficiently trained.
  5. Manages a portfolio of targeted donors including cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. Develops and executes individualized development plans for significant donors and prospects – including the effective involvement of lay leaders and senior leadership.
  6. Supervises grant writing, grant management and corporate foundation activities to significantly expand JWRP sources of revenue.
  7. Provides the lead staff support to the Board Development Committee working closely with the Executive Director and Chief of Staff. Partners with the Committee Chair to schedule regular meetings, develop agendas, prepare materials, distribute timely minutes, and follow-up on action items. Supports the process of identifying and onboarding future Committee members.
  8. Works with the Executive Director and Human Resources to hire, train and supervise development professionals. Ensure the performance of all staff is actively managed and professional development and coaching opportunities are identified and implemented.
  1. Participates as a member of the senior management team and provides consultation to the Board, Executive Director and Founding Director on all philanthropy related issues.
  2. Collaborates with marketing professionals to create relevant communications including solicitation materials, marketing materials (e.g., annual report), and other event, conference and development collateral materials.
  3. Works with other senior leaders to ensure appropriate systems are in place to provide exceptional customer service throughout the organization to all donors and prospects.

Qualifications and Success Factors

  • Bachelor’s degree required (advanced degree preferred)
  • At least 7 years of experience in relevant development roles; minimum of 2 years managing lay leader partnerships; prior experience coaching and supervising team members
  • Proven ability to increase financial resources. Experience developing and implementing a strategic development or business plan. Ability to inspire others and build commitment through articulating a clear and understandable vision.
  • Demonstrated success translating strategic plans into operating plans with clear goals, objectives and measurement tools
  • Proven ability to make sound, data based judgments.
  • Proven organizational and communication skills with the ability to build strong and trusted relationships with staff, donors, board members and volunteers
  • Proven ability to maximize donor database tools, generate fundraising metrics and reporting and implement a strong donor communication system
